A popular example of a remix is Walt Disney's animated motion picture, Frozen, which is based off the historical fairy tale The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. Walt Disney Pictures is infamous for re-purposing classic fairy tales and creating movies that convey lessons to modern day children. Some examples included Rapunzel retold in the movie Tangled and The Little Mermaid. While some may think this to be plagiarism you can argue that it isn't because of the concept of remix.
Disney uses the fairy tale, The Snow Queen, as inspiration while creating the animated motion picture, Frozen. The original story is altered in many ways including the significance of characters like the Snow Queen herself whom although plays a vital role in the story, becomes a main character in the movie. The movie also emits some characters, like the two main protagonists, Greda and Kai. They combine the two protagonists with the character of the Snow Queen to create Elsa and Anna.
A fairy tales purpose is to appeal to children while teaching them important life lessons. The lesson to learn from The Snow Queen was how perseverance and resilience despite difficulties or delays is key to achieving success. Disney altered this lesson for modern day society and in Frozen showed how true love lies within family and friends. Instead of having true love be the man that Anna "loves", it is instead the true love that her sister, Elsa, has for her. This shows us that family is just as important, if not more, than falling in love. By changing the lesson to something relatable to society today, Disney made the film engage the current audience.
Remix helps create culture, it influences us every day. It is important to have remix because it helps create ideas that are relatable to modern day society. The film Frozen took old lessons and made them relatable to this generation of children, it also supplies the children with an engaging way to learn these lessons.
