Cinder-Ella

To give you a reminder of a childhood memory, remember the famous story of Cinderella? The authors, the Grimm Brothers, were German men that took their time to write this classic fairytale in 1697.  The original story consisted of a beautiful young lady who had the hardest life; she was always being told what to do and when to do it. Finally she had the chance to go to a ball where her life changed for the better. Since then many people have remade and rewritten the story. There was one specific author who took this love story to a totally different level while still keeping the memory of the original story. Her name is Gail Carson Levine and she called her story Ella Enchanted; she wrote this novel, after being rejected many times using her other pieces, in 1997. Her version of Cinderella can be described as an adventurous love story where a girl gets rid of the curse and finally gets to be with her Prince. When Ella was a baby, she was put under a curse by Lucinda which caused her to have to do whatever she was asked to do even if she didn’t want to do it; she had to be obedient and this burden made Ella extremely frustrated and lead her to run away from school to go on and travel through places she had never been to fight and finally get rid of this “gift” given to her by Lucinda before she was to be stuck with the reched curse for the rest of her life and never again be her true self. Ella managed to break the curse when it can to be more important to protect the one that she loves most, Prince Charmont, and finally got the life she deserved. Levine wanted to change this story I am sure she read as a kid and make it the adventure she wanted it to be.
